Our Approach

Individual Approach

A highly-personalised program to get you back on track

At The Whitehaven Clinic, we see you, not the problem. We concentrate on individualised programs and offer our clients dedicated, one-on-one personalised care. It’s an intensive program with you and your recovery team spending up to 20 hours a week together. We’ll design a custom program for you and review it at the end of the first week to make sure everything’s on track. We don’t hold extensive group sessions, and we don’t use a 12 step program.

Instead, we believe in self-empowerment.

  • We don’t subscribe to the theory that addiction is a disease.
  • We believe in the social learning model. Old, ingrained behaviours can be unlearned; and replaced with new, healthier strategies.
  • Identifying the root cause of an addiction will determine the healing journey.
  • We teach you about yourself, your personality type and encourage self-empowerment.
  • Our strategies can be applied to every area of your life, not just overcoming addiction.
  • Minimal group work.
  • Intensive, one-on-one personalised program.
  • Counselling sessions are between 90 and 120 minutes; much longer than the traditional 50-minute-hour offered by other facilities.

Alternative Therapies

A holistic approach to recovery.

Our counsellors take a holistic approach to the treatment of addiction and will recommend therapies to help you on your journey of recovery. These may include:

  • Naturopathy
  • Blood tests to check for chemical imbalances
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Food allergies and serotonin & dopamine levels
  • Dietary supplements to bring your body back in balance
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Nutrition; healthy eating and hydration
  • Life purpose
  • Spirituality
  • Yoga
  • Acupuncture
  • Meditation
  • Biorhythm feedback for anxiety management
  • Psychologists
  • Psychiatrists
  • Medical practitioners, where required.

All the service providers we recommend are aligned with our Whole of Life approach.

Reintegration

Helping you reconnect with those around you

People with addictions become increasingly disconnected from their friends, family, work colleagues and the community. It’s as if the whole family has become unwell. Our counsellors will explain how reconnecting with these important people in your life is part of your journey of recovery and work with your family as part of your treatment. By including your family in the recovery process, we can make sure there are no surprises or barriers when you’re ready to return to a better and healthier life. We’ll also teach you how to reintegrate with the wider community and make smart social choices to improve your chances of staying addiction-free.
